For me, Kahler's reporting provided; 1) concrete numbers/rates on these policies, and 2) the magnitude of their usage across the league. I was not aware of either prior to her piece.
Few examples I am aware of from long ago with the Houston Texans. Matt Schaub 2012 contract, Brian Cushing 2013 contract, and JJ Watt 2014 contract all had sizeable insurance packages. Houston ultimately received small cap credits of pro-rated cap dollars from the signing bonuses after players missed time due to injury.
